With one of the steepest gradients of any railway line in NSW, meandering through breathtaking views of the Oberon Plateau, the Oberon to Tarana pioneer railway line is truly unique. Officially opened in 1923, the 24.3 kilometre railway line was built to convey local produce which included everything from vegetables to valuable local timbers and the products of gold and copper mining. Today plans are well underway to restore the track to its former glory and offer heritage train rides to tourists and members of the local community.
