ARHS ACT originally started in the 1960s with 15 local railway heritage enthusiasts. Over time, the branch developed a reputation for innovative railway tours using chartered trains, and was entrusted with the care of Garratt steam locomotive 6029. ARHS ACT was formally recognised in 1975 and now proudly has over 400 members.
