Restoration of RailCorp's heritage fleet has a focus on items that underpin the operational fleet as well as static exhibits for public display. They are also selected with a view to offering opportunities for skills transfer between existing custodians, staff, tradespeople, new volunteers and apprentices.
Separately, accredited heritage operators maintain items of RailCorp's heritage fleet to ensure they are able to provide day-to-day safe operation of heritage train tours.
Custodians that make up the NSW Rail Heritage network are undertaking restoration and maintenance projects. Find out more about the Custodians, their projects and how you can volunteer to take part in restorations projects.
Two current significant projects are:

Locomotive 3265: the Powerhouse Museum's team of conservators and volunteers, over many years, undertook the reconstruction of this iconic locomotive which returned to traffic in September 2009. www.powerhousemuseum.com/collection/loco_3265.asp
